Implementation Specialist Intern

Fight for Life Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on supporting individuals and families through community-based programs and services. The organization works to improve access to resources, promote stability, and create positive outcomes for the populations it serves.

Primary Responsibilities and Projects

During my internship, I worked on the Dream Builders program, an 8-week program where we visited different schools and worked with a small group of students. Each week focused on a new goal, helping students build skills such as confidence, planning, and decision-making.

  1. Sent emails to different schools to communicate and gather information on their data, such as student check-ins and check-outs.

  2. Visited different schools to engage with students, set new weekly goals, and review progress from previous sessions.

  3. Learned adaptability by adjusting to different environments and handling challenges during sessions.

  4. Helped update the SEL (Social Emotional Learning) library by organizing and adding resources for student development.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

During my internship, I learned how to communicate professionally, stay organized, and manage responsibilities both in-person and remotely. I was expected to be reliable, support program activities, and work effectively with students, schools, and my team. With all the feedback I received, I will continue growing and developing my career by improving my skills and applying what I learned from this experience.

I had the opportunity to help start a program with my supervisor at two schools, Frederick Douglass and GPLA. We worked with a selected group of students and held weekly meetings. In each session, we discussed a goal, created a plan to achieve it, and followed up on progress the next week. We also included activities and icebreakers at the start of each meeting to keep students engaged and build a positive environment.
