PechaKucha
Presentation

Health Equity Among Black Women

For PBHL-H245, Professionalism in Healthcare Workforces, this project was a PechaKucha-style presentation using only images to communicate ideas. My focus was on health equity among Black women, highlighting disparities in maternal health outcomes, access to care, and the impact of systemic bias in healthcare. Each slide used visuals to represent key issues such as higher maternal mortality rates, barriers to quality care, and the importance of culturally competent providers. I explained how these challenges reflect gaps in professionalism, particularly in communication, respect, and equitable treatment. The presentation emphasized the need for healthcare professionals to improve awareness, reduce bias, and deliver patient-centered care to help close these disparities.

What I learned

I learned that professionalism in healthcare goes beyond basic behavior and includes delivering equitable, respectful, and culturally competent care to all patients. Through focusing on health equity among Black women, I saw how systemic bias and disparities in access and treatment can negatively impact outcomes, especially in maternal health. This project showed me the importance of awareness, effective communication, and accountability in reducing these gaps. I also learned how to communicate complex issues using visuals and concise explanations, which strengthened my ability to present important healthcare topics clearly and effectively.
